Skylar, a native of Seattle, is a former soccer player with college and professional playing experience. He remains active, competing in road cycling races and various running events.
Skylar previously worked as the Nutrition Supervisor at A Place Called Home (APCH), an after school drop-in center for youth in south central Los Angeles. There, he created a fresh, healthy menu for daily dinner serving 200, and taught nutrition classes to educate the youth and their parents on the importance of eating well. During the 2011 Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution in Los Angeles, he was recognized by the Jamie Oliver Foundation for his work at APCH. He also oversaw an internship/apprenticeship program that created a partnership between APCH and Patina Restaurant Group located in the greater Los Angeles area. The 10 week internship placed south central area high school students interested in nutrition and culinary arts in the kitchen at Patina Restaurant with the opportunity for a job at the conclusion of the internship.Skylar’s other experiences include working in clinical dietetics, hospital food service, and health club counseling. He has written and contributed to various personal training websites and blogs.
